Today, I had the pleasure of capturing portraits for a beautiful little family! After
having to reschedule session after session (I think 6 total sessions!) because
of bad weather, I was so, incredibly excited that they wanted to brave the after-snow-and-ice-weather for a photo shoot!
Graciously giving me permission to post their images with the only stipulation that I didn’t disclose their names, let’s call them Caitlyn, Matthew, and Patrick for their own privacy. (Thank you so much, guys!)

They arrived at the field ready to shoot! They were so lively and friendly and ready to jump in that I completely forgot the temperature outside or even the fact that there were still tiny piles of snow in the grass! It was so easy to take all these pictures; I seriously feel like they must be models because they were nailing it. What a dream that I get to do this!

Sweet little Patrick was just the gentlest little guy, and he was always on the move! He knew he was doing such a great job and gave himself a round of applause after each snapshot! He didn’t say a single word to me, but that’s okay. I was so glad to get to meet him and take his pictures and hear his giggles when dad tickled him. He was happy to see himself on my camera when I showed him! Mickey helped him to keep his eyes on the camera.

I love taking posed portraits (after all, those are usually the ones we print out to hang up in our homes and change our profile picture to), but I love capturing people just as they are. Candid images are the sweetest to me because while we all love to look great and pause for a smile, what we do shows more of who we are, and as you can see from these images, they are delightful! While they were already kneeling to be close to their little guy, I simply asked them to look up and smile – I didn’t pose them at all! They mostly looked like they were enjoying each other like they normally do, and I was just catching a glimpse of their lives through a window (of my camera!).

Caitlyn and Matthew love their sweet little guy, and it was so evident in the way they held him, played with him to try to get him to laugh (I mean, who wants to smile at a stranger who’s holding a huge thingamajig right at you?), and helped him back up after he stumbled on the choppy grass.

Not only do they love their little guy, but they love each other. They make each other laugh and flowed seamlessly together!
While on a family session, I always make sure to take the time to capture intimate photos of just mom and dad. Between the diaper changing, waking at night, feeding, and always caring for your young one around the clock, it’s so refreshing to catch moments in-between to just be husband and wife. Not only that, but it is the love that you have for each other that started your family in the first place, so it’s important to get back to that foundation and capture that love of just the two of you.
This session came and went so quickly because time flies when you’re having fun and I had a blast. Thank you again for allowing me to share these precious images of you and yours, Caitlyn and Matthew! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
